FAQs

Oral hygiene sessions are an important prevention tool for general and specific oral health, so that so that every patient can receive targeted and personalised instructions on correct methods for oral hygiene at home to help them maintain health over time.

The clinic also carries out scaling for the removal of upper gum deposits, root planing for lower gum deposits reaching sensitive areas affected by bacteria to restore and maintain the health of gums over time. These procedures are a key requisite for the success of any dental treatment.

Dental and medical history, or the gathering of information from the patient regarding their overall and dental state of health, helps medical and dental staff form an accurate diagnosis and therefore a suitable treatment plan.

It is important not to leave out anything and to indicate any pathology that you have had or currently suffer from, every drug taken, possible pregnancy or allergies/hypersensitivities.

Medical history consists in a declaration by the patient regarding their present and past state of health that is communicated to the doctor in writing.

Authorisation to the treatment of personal data, instead, includes various information such as contact data relating to the Clinic Owner (name, location, telephone number, email), objectives and reasons for collecting data (prevention, diagnosis, cure, rehabilitation, medical or health treatments, communication to third party entities and bodies for regulatory compliance or on demand of the authorities), modes of treatment of data, period of time data is stored, parties the data is communicated to and patient rights.

Further to any conservative, orthodontic, endodontic, gnathological/orthopaedic, surgical and/or prosthetic treatment patients should be given a series of clinical and radiology appointments to monitor results so that complications do not occur, and to intervene in a timely manner in case they do.

With suitable information provided by your trusted hygienist, you will be able to learn correct toothbrush selection: whether manual, electric or sonic- although recent studies have shown how even patients with good oral hygiene and suitable dexterity in brushing are unable to completely remove plaque and bacterial biofilm.

Similarly, use of brush and brushing technique are very important. In addition to this, other oral hygiene aids, even though they are considered by many less important or useful, are essential for the removal of bacteria and therefore for the health of tooth enamel and gum. These include interdental tools such as floss and pipe cleaners as well as chlorhexidine-based mouthwashes, known for their antibacterial and antimicrobic properties.

Consuming drinks such as tea, coffee or alcohol can impact health and natural colouring of teeth as well as the colouring of restorative implants. Sugar remains in the mouth if not accurately cleaned after consumption. In addition to this, these drinks can create unwanted external pigmentations on tooth enamel.

As far as cigarette smoke is concerned, in addition to the undesirable effect on tooth colour it represents a huge risk factor for the patient’s general health, and especially for the health of the mouth as smoking is closely linked to periodontal disease due to the heat it causes and resulting vasoconstriction.
